At the time, the only source for live entertainment was the Broadmoor Hotel. Nicholas was convinced that the potential for a dance club/nightclub in Colorado Springs was enormous. Nicholas moved west as a labor organizer for the United Mine Workers to help organize the Mine Workers of Colorado. Nicholas spent considerable time with the Navajo Indians, many of whom were miners. Hence, the Navajo Hogan Roadhouse was modeled and constructed after a Navajo Indian dwelling.

The "Hogan" is a sacred home for the Dine (Navajo) people who practice traditional religion. Every Navajo family must have a traditional Hogan for ceremonies to keep themselves in balance even if they live most of the time in a more conventional home.

In the Australian Outback a person was seen wearing a famous Boot Hill t-shirt, popular Nascar drivers have been said to wear them under their driving suits, & there are reports that an American astronaut wore a Boot Hill shirt into orbit. The Boot Hill Saloon is the traditional "first stop" when you blow into town, the "meeting place" in Daytona Beach. It is a long standing tradition, almost a quest by many, to buy a Boot Hill T-shirt before leaving Daytona Beach. The official deeds & abstracts go back to the 1800's when the building was built. It was three buildings in one, one side a church, the middle section a "watering hole" better known as a bar by many, & the third portion a barbershop. There are still a few old timers around who remember those days. During the 70's and early 80's the media began writing stories about the wild gathering of bikers in Daytona Beach. Every reporter was looking to validate the Hollywood version of the biker image. It was around this time the movie Easy Rider was filmed starring Dennis Hopper & Peter Fonda. A large autographed picture of Peter Fonda hung in the Saloon for years from the star's visit one year during Bike Week, but was stolen about 6 years ago from the wall. Walking into the Boot Hill Saloon makes you feel as though you are in a time warp, & looking at all of the memorabilia left behind on the walls, ceiling, tables, and bar will keep you intriqued for hours. Wow this resturant is the BOMB!!!!!: I was so satisfied with China Town Resturant. If my stomach had been bigger I would have eaten more. The historic ballpark opened on June 4, 1914 as Daytona City Island Ballpark. Six years later, Daytona Beach obtained its first franchise & became a charter member in the class D Florida State League. During the 1920’s, a road circling the ballpark was built. A grandstand with a press box was built behind home plate to replace the original wood bleachers, and two additional covered sections of grandstands were added along the first base line, along with a segregated viewing area (in order to comply with the Jim Crow seating law). An uncovered bleacher along the third base line completed this ballpark expansion.

In the winter of 1951, the ballpark experienced a major facelift with most emphasis being placed on the field, fence, press box and clubhouse. However, in 1960, hurricane Donna blew across the state and did $75,000 worth of damage to the park.

In 1999, Mother Nature showed her power again. Hurricane Floyd ripped apart some of the metal roof over the grandstand behind home plate. The ballpark then experienced a two million dollar historic renovation for its right field grandstands.

You don't have to be a racing fan to enjoy a visit to the Daytona International Speedway, 4 miles west of the beach. Opened in 1959 with the first Daytona 500, this 480-acre complex is one of the key reasons for the city's fame. The track presents about nine weekends of major racing events annually, featuring stock cars, sports cars, motorcycles, and go-karts, and is used for automobile and motorbike testing and other events many other days of the year.

Start your visit at the World Center of Racing Visitor Center, in the NASCAR office complex at the east end of the speedway. Admission to the center is free, and you can walk out & see the track during non-race days (there's a small admission to the track during qualifying races leading up to the main events).

During the 1960's Valda and B.G. Timmons son Frank brought his newly completed party fishing boat the "Marianne" to berth at the fish camp & began running deep sea Red Snapper fishing trips.

After moving the boats to the new marina office, Timmons Fish Camp was converted to a fresh fish market & a small grocery store serving the locals and restaurants with fresh fish. Many big "fish stories" were told over beers, some which go a little "too salty" for the ladies, so Captain Frank purchased the family fish camp and built a bar on the waterfront for the fishermen. This was the original Down The Hatch pub located next to the fish market, currently our inside bar area. Soon someone said "Hey, how about a fried fish sandwich", and the restaurant was born. In 1977 the over the water dining room was constructed and the pub became Down the Hatch Seafood Restaurant. As the popularity of the restaurant grew, an outside deck and modern kitchen was added. Spotted Dolphin Encounters are available between 9 AM & 4PM everyday for those 7 years or older and 48" (inches) and above. At least 24 hours advance reservations and payment in full are required - Space is limited, book early! Gulfarium policy, as well as Florida Law, prohibits the public from swimming with Kiwi. Time will be spent in the shallow end of the pool allowing the dolphins to come to you. There will be up to 4 people in the water at one time.

The cost of the Spotted Dolphin Encounter is $150.00 per person who enters the water.

All persons must be at least 7 years old and 48" (inches) or above to participate.

All observers of the encounter pay:
